"... the day we went to ... Rhyl!"

Yesterday the brave, 4-man vanguard of North Wales Tabletop Games Club climbed into the hire van and made the arduous trek down the A55 to Rhyl. We attended the inaugural Geeks and Treats Comic Con and geek culture event at the Sussex Street Christian Centre. We took three display games, banners and a gazillion business cards to hand out. Club member Dave Blenkley also brought along his impressive home made R2D2 which spent the day trundling around bleeping and basically stealing the show. Thanks Dave!

Frostgrave

Frostgrave always draws a crowd - especially when we put on the show with the Habour layout. 'Uncle' Dave McClumpha attracted a number of young players, all of whom managed to roll like Vegas professionals in his demonstration games.

Hairfoot Jousting

Described as Hobbits, riding random farm animals they can barely control, trying to play polo, this turned out to be the surprise attraction of the day, with youngsters especially queueing up to cause mayhem for Mark Blythe. Definitely a game we shall run again!

This Quars War

Billed as "World War One Wombles" we quickly learned that most of the visitors were too young to know what a womble is! Very humbling.

A huge thanks to Dave, Dave, Mark and Alan for their efforts. Free Christmas Do tickets for each of you! We learned a lot and have a few things that we can improve and do better next time - including table stockings that fit! Also we conjured a plan for a huge Gaslands table that we could repurpose as post-apocalypse / pod racing / Mario kart for our next shows. If anyone is interested in helping out at future events then please get in touch with a board member. Finally a huge thank you to this comedy sidekick for running almost all day - fighting the carpet, delighting young and old alike and providing a genuine work out in having to be carried back to the car exhausted at 4o'clock!
