Another Bug Hunt is the official introductory adventure for the sci-fi horror RPG: Mothership. Six months ago, colonists terraforming the remote jungle world Samsa VI ceased all communications. You and your crew have been hired to address the situation and will shortly be making the drop to the planet's surface. Make contact with the colonists, find out what's going on, and fix it.
Oh, and try not to die or anything. But how hard will that be. Nothing down there but trees.
...Right?
Mothership is a sci-fi horror RPG, where you and your crew try to survive in that most inhospitable of all environments: SPACE. Think Alien, Event Horizon, Dead Space. Mankind has long spread to the outer reaches of the galaxy, driven by their corporate overlords’ ceaseless appetite for profit. Technology is advanced, yet cumbersome, almost decrepit. And the unknown is always out there, waiting for someone to stick their head where they really shouldn’t, and then do something very horrible to them.
As players, you will try to investigate and survive the happenings of Samsa VI, as a Marine, Android, Scientist, or Teamster. Having set off for the planet at your hiring three months prior, you are now in-orbit, and about to be awoken from cryosleep. Within the hour you will be on a dropship headed for the world’s surface, your orders clear, but with little prior indication of what will greet you on arrival.
You may have your concerns about this job, or it may just be one more in a long line of corpo gigs. Either way, you know your bosses don’t care if you live or die, only that the job gets done. Something to keep in mind, given not only are they signing your paycheque, they’re also your lift home.
Beware that Mothership can be a quite lethal system, combat especially to be avoided at all costs. The risks attached to prospective actions will be telegraphed as best as possible, and some back-up characters will be in place, but tread carefully and be prepared to take losses even then. It is a horror game in the end; PC death is always on the table by design.
I would like to emphasise that:
‘Mothership is a horror game intended for mature audiences. It contains violence, foul language, some sexual content, drug use, and depictions of mental illness, trauma, stress, and panic that may not be suitable for all audiences.’
In addition, this specific campaign features content warnings regarding Arachnophobia, Body Horror, Mind Control, and Claustrophobia.
Discussions can always be had, and adjustments can always be made, but ultimately this sort of game is not for everyone. Please exercise personal discretion.
