Logo Submissions
Hi everyone, my apologies for the delay in starting the logo competition. With the Club's new name, we are now looking to change the Club's logo. The old logo was easy to recognise, and the colours were eye-catching, but it was very complex and did not scale well for use on the website, merchandise, dice, and other products. It also included the silhouettes of various recognisable characters - some of which are IP owned by other companies, and it didn't represent the range of games we play.
This is your opportunity to submit your ideas or designs for how the Club's main logo will look. You do not need to be great at art to enter. In fact, you can even enter a written design brief if drawing a stickman is the best of your artistic abilities, as Adam Studdart, the Club's Branding and Graphics Officer, is a professional graphic artist and will be able to help the winning finalist turn their sketch/idea into a full logo. And because we have Adam, we can accept written briefs/ideas and also AI-generated ones. Whatever submission wins, Adam will redraw and refine it to ensure it conforms to the Club's needs.
The Club's Needs
Adam has provided this guidance on creating a good logo, which will be used to narrow down the entrants to a suitable final list. The summary is the following
It must work without text as a symbol
It should be clear at any size
Can be used in mono-tone
It should express something about who we are and what we do
For a full breakdown of what is needed, please see the file below (please ignore the Submission Requirements section in the doc)
What can be entered?
So we're casting the net wide, allowing members to enter their ideas in various formats
Drawn/painted/created on paper or a digital file
AI-generated concept/idea
A written brief/description/idea
We are going to limit the number of entries to just one per member, so choose your best.
If you have created the entry, can you provide the medium used (paint, pencil drawing, Photoshop, etc.) and a short description (1-3 sentences) explaining your design and its inspiration.
If you are entering an AI-generated piece, please provide the name of the AI tool used and the script used in creating the piece and a short description (1-3 sentences) explaining your design and its inspiration.
If you are entering a written brief, please keep it short, concise and succinct. Remember the written brief needs to be executable (for example, a line drawn red dragon curled up on a mountain of gold with a black background provides a description that can be created, while a fun-looking blue logo with dice and miniatures is too vague)
Your entry should be in colour (or in a written brief, state the colours).
All entries should be made by completing the online form reached from the button below. If you have a physical entry, then please also pass it to one of the directors or Adam
How will the finalists be chosen?
Adam and I will filter through the entries. Using the document above as our guiding principle. Will we reduce it to 10 finalists. We will then hold a vote, using the ranking/transferable vote system we used for the name change.
Closing Date?
Noon, Sunday 22nd March
Voting Date?
Opens on Monday 30th March, closing Sunday 5th April.
What about alternative logos for a specific section of the club, like 40K?
We are going to sort out the main club's logo first. After that, Adam will be holding meetings/discussions with each specific section of the club, working with the members in creating the logo/logos.
You mentioned art on t-shirts, alternative logos, etc while back?
All in good time, like with the specific logos for specific game systems, this will be something to delve into later in the year.
